Understanding how to make your own clothes that fit you well is an act of empowerment and self-sufficiency, but requires knowledge of sweater construction, fit and modifications. Using the Studio Sweater pattern by Ysolda Teague, we will take a deep dive into sweater knitting, and how to knit a sweater for the unique, amazing individual that is you.
This isn’t a class for knitting your first sweater, but a class for improving your sweater skills as we study construction and fit. We’ll look at swatching and finding a good fabric for a pattern, accurate body and project measurements, modifications for different body types and sizes, and tips and tricks for a polished garment.
What We’ll Cover: How to knit a sweater, sweater sizing, fit and construction, selecting a yarn, swatching, lifted increases, German short rows, following a pattern for a garment, finishing and sweater care
Prerequisite Techniques: Casting on and binding off, knitting and purling, working in the round, basic increases and decreases, some experience with knitted garments
Class Materials: Students must purchase a copy of the pattern prior to class, either from Ysolda's website or Ravelry. We will discuss yarn and needle selection in our first class, please do not purchase any other materials before class starts.
